Your dyosa?
1/31/2007, Wednesday

Pics from the Weekday Warrior lasy night:

One of the perks of being one of the web guys here - I can get my stuff signed by my fave goddess! Coney made this possible. It was kinda sweet, since I just asked for a signature and the mags came back with nice messages.

Sorry, Garr. You're just too far LOL ^_^

I played 1000pts of 40K with my Necrons against Romy's Emperor's Children. I was holding the tide during the first turns, killing off his HQ very early despite having that Siren power-thingy. Midgame, Romy summoned his Daemonettes and the summon deviated TOWARDS where my force was! And it that wasn't bad enough, my remaining Necron Warrior unit got pinned! Obviously I lost (I got phased out by end of turn 5), but it was a very fun game.

Oh no! They're headed right for us, sir! Do Necrons speak English? I thought they were like all toots and whistles like Protoss, but Ian Beefcake said they DID speak English in Dark Crusade. Pahiram installer ha? ^_^

More World of Warcraft
1/29/2007, Monday

Since I'm on tipid-mode until my brothers get back to Australia, I had to cut my weekend gaming for a bit. So on my off days last Friday and Saturday, I decided to stay home and just rest. I did get some painting done, specifically two Winterguard models and a sample Howling Griffon marine. I got to watch some DVDs at home plus I got some much needed sleep.

My brothers have been here for almost three months now. But it was only last Saturday that we got together to play that WOW board game Koi bought me. Koi was playing some PS2, when Jei and Nok decided to join in as well. Expectedly, my brothers got the hang of the game almost immediately. But I better look into more details about the characters that we played and just append this post later on.

In the end, we had to wrap up quickly so the game prematurely ended with a PVP! Both teams knocked the snot out of each other, resulting in a win for the overlord, Kel'Thuzad!

Weekday Warrior
1/24/2007, Wednesday 1/23/2007, Tuesday

Yahoo Conference with the miniature wargaming boyz - Ricky Lozano, Obi Parcon, Garrick Lee, Gelo Almeda, Romy Estrella. Discussions varied from 40K campaigning and tourns to Airsoft stuff to WARMACHINE stuff to starting Howling Griffons. I also got invited to drop by Makati and join in on Weekday Warrior. Obi even "orked" me a map going there LOL!

Got off from work, took the MRT and walked all the way to Romy's construction site office (as per Obi's map but Romy met me outside). When I got there, Lito Tan and Justin (surname ?) were already playing a 2000-pt Gladiator match for 40K. Obi and Gelo were setting up a 1000-pt pickup match using Rules of Engagement. I got to play a game of WOWCCG using Romy's Hunter deck, which I horribly lost LOL (He used Ta'zo)! Lito and Romy played a WOWCCG game of their own, with Lito's Disdemona coming on top with multiple Corruptions.

Thanks for the invite and the welcome, guys. I'll try to get some games in next time around.

Howling Griffons
1/24/2007, Wednesday 1/23/2007, Tuesday

I have a lot of SM (Space Marines) stuff at home, loyalist AND Chaos. And they're all in dire need to be put together. I've always liked Space Marines and the fluff behind them. But in the current gaming scene, and from what some of the boyz say, it is best to use a vanilla army list rather than go to any of the funky ones (as vanilla lists tend to be more "untouched" with each passing edition of rules). Ultramarines have always been a local favorite, as exemplified by Ryan Tamayo's miniatures.

I was considering making a Nazi-themed loyalist SM army, but the notion died very quickly. Most local players prize at using by-the-book armies. While making DIY chapters was creative and all, nothing garners respect like taking on a "named" army.

I also considered Black Templars, but sadly, they're not vanilla SMs. The models are awesome though. Maybe I'll just get some and convert them in my planned SM army.

Chaos Space Marines have been greatly considered. But since I already play Necrons, Vampire Counts, Khorne Daemonic Legion and Khador, maybe it's time I get a "good guy" army. Besides, the more flavorful factions in Chaos may prove difficult to use in objective-based games.

SO it has to be a vanilla SM army. It has to be a named chapter. It has to be something that no one has done here locally. It has to have a lot of conversion potential.

Howling Griffons fit the bill exactly.

Time to get to work ^_^

Blog Updates
1/24/2007, Wednesday

It's somewhat slow today here at work so I decided to update some of my other blogs. With Obi's consent, I pushed through with 2007's first miniwargamer profile. Check it out here.

I also tried to clean up dead links on my sidebar.

Roxanne Guinoo, White Castle Whiskey's New Hottie

I know very little of this young lady. But as with most, I started taking notice when she appeared in a billboard ad along Edsa sporting a red bikini that only accentuated sweet curves. The ad is for White Castle whisky and as of this writing, I'm also waiting for the customary horse ride along some beach.

There's an article about it in the GMANews.TV site. If you ask me, it's about time ^_^

BBL River Rats - Irusk vs Kreoss
2007 January 18

I played my last BBL game last night at Hobby Haven. It was using the River Rats scenario and my opponent was Romy Estrella. Here's his Menoth wargroup composition:

- Kreoss
- Guardian
- Crusader
- Revenger
- Devout
- Knights Exemplar

With precise sniping, my Widowmakers and Eiryss managed to cripple his Guardian very early in the game while Kommandant Irusk held back the Menite surge with well placed Inhospitable Ground.

I gambled my IFP (Iron Fang Pikemen) in the middle shallows so as to tie up his warjacks. With Battle Lust, my IFP did considerable damage before they were destroyed. As with my recent game, Irusk's Undying Loyalty was also ineffective this time around.

Romy made the mistake of putting his Devout too far from Kreoss, and as such, I took the opportunity and shot at the Menite warcaster with a disruptor bolt from Eiryss. Later on, with no focus, and no other warjacks, Kreoss was finished by a Battle Lusted charge from a Manhunter.

Having decimated his whole force, I got full victory points for holding all three objectives.

Looking back, the scenario was an uphill challenge for Romy's Menoth wargroup. Not only did he have to deal with being outnumbered, he had to manage controlling the river fords AND Irusk's Inhospitable Ground. If Romy had more infantry like he said, the outcome would have been different.

- Scenario: River Rats (Romy 3vp, Me 31vp)
- Result: Victory for Kommandant Irusk

BBL Winding Down

Just updating my league results:

Raymund Tesoro (Vayl, Disciple of Everblight)
- First time to play against him in all my 6 years of having known this dude!
- Got lucky with a Seraph failing its test, going berserk and rampaging towards me
- Failed to catch Vayl and her other Seraph bodyguard, which broke the Spriggan with some fancy shooting
- Brought down Carnivean with Battle Lust on IFP
- Scenario: Dust Bowl (Raymund 25vp, Me 18vp)
- Result: LOSS for Kommandant Irusk

Jake de Jesus (Major Brisbane, Cygnar)
- Jake caught me off-guard by playing a static Brisbane who was flinging stationary shots left and right with Explosivo!
- Succeeded in surgically dismantling his warjacks with Battle Lusted troops
- Caught Brisbane in a headbutt power move followed by a finishing charge from Irusk
- Scenario: Smash, Grab and Smash Again (Jake 0vp, Me 27vp)
- Result: Victory for Kommandant Irusk

Paul Borja (Ashlynn d'Elysse, Highborn Covenant Mercenaries)
- Bogged down Paul's advance with Inhospitable Ground and Shield-walling IFP
- Managed to kill Ashlynn early, but still had to deal with Alexia and her mob of Risen
- Irusk got to charge into melee again, got to bring down Ashlynn and Alexia this game
- Scenario: Gear Grinder (Paul 7vp, Me 25vp)
- Result: Victory for Kommandant Irusk

Laurence Tan (Kommander Sorscha, Khador)
- Played my gamble by sniping off his Mortar teams with my Widowmakers which were out in the open
- Made a grave mistake by dropping Undying Loyalty too early
- Managed to kill several key models but was not enough (I should have taken on his IFP first)
- Scenario: Scrapheap Challenge (Laurence 23vp, Me 4vp)
- Result: Loss for Kommandant Irusk

Fred Escalona (Iron Lich Asphyxious, Cryx)
- Held off his Bane charge with Inhospitable Ground
- Fred's game is improving, as he had good defense with his units (no easy pickings for any of my units)
- Undying Loyalty was rendered useless with tremendously horrible dice rolls
- In the end, no clear win was decided; and got boiled down to victory points instead
- Scenario: Forced Recon (Fred 10vp, Me 13vp)
- Result: Victory for Kommandant Irusk

Ronald Benedicto (Archdomina Makeda, Skorne)
- Played the game at bloody 1AM!
- Head was mush, forgot to use Undying Loyalty
- Took the central stones early, spamming Inhospitable Ground and Airburst
- Destroyed both units of Praetorians and solo Totem Hunter early
- I think Ronald was waiting for me to get into the 8-inch drag range of the Acuarii for a ready counter-charge from his Titan (must find some way to eliminate that)
- In the end, Ronald was baiting me to finish off his remaining models but I chose not to put my remaining models in a compromised position
- Scenario: Stones of Power (Ronald 3vp, Me 5vp)
- Result: Victory for Kommandant Irusk

[PAINTING] Painted one Winterguard last night. Came out nice, too ^_^ One model at a time; slowly but surely.

BBL Report

As the year rolled in, my performance in the WARMACHINE Brass Balls League has been mediocre. To the credit of my opponents, their game was ace. And as I have given my best at my games, I have little regret except that I should have played more.

[PAINTING] I got to finish my Spriggan and IFP standard bearer. I'll be painting up the MOWDC Kapitan next in time for my next BBL game.

Happy New Year

Happy new year, everyone. First day of 2007, first post on KB. And yeah, I greeted this year by working at the office. But it's all good as the relaunch pushed through. Check out the new look of our site here. I rushed making that Flash movie there (The Year That Was In Pictures). There's a link there that's supposed to pop up the Flashie. Yeah, as we say mainit-init pa yan LOL!

I haven't got to greeting all those who greeted me this past Christmas and New Year. I'll be calling y'all soon ^_^

I think I'll start to guzzle down coffee. I can feel the lethargy every time I wake up try to wake up in the morning! Coffee boost is needed. I'll need to buy me one of those airpots that can be plugged in to heat water. I wonder how much those cost? I'll just check out some mall later.

I was also thinking of buying one of those corner lamps for my poor room. And a nice extension cord set.

Yeah, looks like I'll be going to a mall later. I hope they're all open though LOL!

[WARMACHINE] Lost my first game against Raymund's Vayl. 98% finished painting the Spriggan (flock and varnish to go). Started painting IFP standard bearer.
