Civil War

I was only supposed to get Joe Madureira comics but then I got to chat with Jojo earlier. He was pitching about how good Marvel's Civil War is. And I must say, what an intriguing storyline!

The acts of superheroes have always been a point of contention. And by this time, it has all piled up over on top of each other that we all know it's soon gonna break. And because of a certain catastrophe caused by some superheroes, it was the last straw. The government was forced to submit all superheroes unto a registration, where they will be unmasked and be turned civil servants. Some superheroes are all for it. Some aren't. Whose side are you on?

Instead of my usual DOTA-lunchbreak, I got a cab and went to SM North Edsa and got me my own copy. I won't be getting all the other titles. Just this one. It's only seven issues. Maybe I can get the poster, too.

In one of the discussion topics on the RHGC forum, some veterans have brought up the issue of the club's direction. Funny. My post's title seems very apt right about now.

I'll add on to this in the following days.

On a totally different note, I finished my first crossword puzzle today. It was from the Philippine Star dated May 16, 2006. There were some technical outages earlier so I dug up the puzzle and went about answering it. I guess it's one of those "very easy"-level crossword puzzles, since I wasn't expecting on finishing it. Or maybe I'm just THAT old.

I've also started on Paul's Devil Dog. It's actually a Llaelese Gun Mage but he's using the model as a Devil Dog LOL!. I've also started on the Spriggan and the IFP Captain.

I'll also try putting in some work for my Khorne Daemonic Legion. Hopefully I can make the WFB GT this June.

That only proves one thing to me, dude -- and like I said, I may be thirty, but you're already forty-five to me LOL!

Just by posting that, you seconded it already. Buti na lang hindi pa nababasa ni Garr ito. Malamang insult flood magiging result nun LOL!

Perfectly in line? I would say "in line", but not perfect. And my comment, as much as it was referring to correspendence over the forum, pertains to the "fragmented" gaming community in general.

The old Galleria group is dead - given certain irrepairable differences between some players. And I daresay, that broken group has been the strongest driving force of the community last year.

As a solid core group, RHGC would have handled any external problem. As it happened, the fracture happened internally.

And until that becomes resolved, if ever it does, I see a bright future for the club to be an uphill struggle indeed.

HENCE the reference to "Civil War"

Pinoy Wargamer said...

as far as i'm concerned, the core group i know are the shak boys. and they're still going strong and haven't really missed a beat.

I've known you for quite some time and your answer is expected from one who values allegiances heavily.

For definition's sake, the core group I am pertaining is not only the organizing body behind the steering wheel, but also the players who USED TO play regularly.

Besides, I believe a group is nothing if it's only comprised of many great leaders but no loyal members.

BUT the unfortunate fact stands - those old days are gone. Irrepairable to some even. We ARE halfway through the year, and the current club administration has been busy with other interests, too, hence no movement in club-related activities. That, and coupled with the fact that NG has downsized their venues (which disallows for as many game tables as before).

I really was looking forward to the "many small weekend tourneys". Unfortunately, that never really happened. Was it a problem of venue? As pointed out, there are many other venues besides NG.

I was also looking forward to having the old gang back - the ones who used to shout, swear, hang out, play, eat, paint - at NG Galleria. Tangena kilala nyo kung sino kayo. Because to me, those were my Golden Days in gaming. Tangena napapanood nyo ako sa sinehan ng lintek na Infection na yan kahit hindi ako mahilig manood sa sine eh.

And if that's not realistic, then I'd see myself playing Warmachine more since the Warhammer I knew won't be the same anymore.

Bah. A moment of weakness. I was being optimistic that such things can be ironed out eventually. I guess I have to accept that not all are.

I'll put this to rest now. As they say, no use crying over spilled milk. Time to go buy a fresh bottle.

[but as far as i know, it's always the other parties that aren't interested in ironing out the differences. dinadaan sa iwasan at deadma. girly moves, as far as i'm concerned.]

girly moves? careful with the words. lolz. just because we don't smoke fat cigars or try to be macho and rude all the time doesn't make us less of a man. lolz. oh and just because may liniligawan ka na doesn't make you more of man either. lolz.

kay haba haba nang mga naging explanation nung recent conflict sa forum if memory serves. people talked to no end and explained each other's sides. it was like watching a bunch of senators do moro moro where people talked but no one listened. in the end nothing happened and ngayon may problema na naman that probably roots out from the previous one? and you want to do more talking? i think the time for talking has come and gone.

why was our criticisms and complaints taken as though they were the cutting edge of a knife? if indeed we were friends? why regard us with so much suspicion and doubt. i think all that proves is that we were never really friends. why then should i spend so much time, effort and resources to maintain false friendships?

i would have so much more to say but i realise this is neither the place nor the time for them. sorry about this kim. i just felt like i needed to speak. though that has always been the problem. my not being part of the silent dissidents. :D what a messed up world we live in. the persons with the good intentions get stoned to death as the bad guys.

pathetic.

Free speech hurts as much as it builds, so I don't mind. I expected this much anyway.

Maybe to point out to Ryan, there is no problem happening on the forums. There is an exchange between Garr and Ronald, and it's on a private discussion (so it's not open for everyone to read or comment on). Some may start reading between the lines, but like what has been said, reading something off the forum is different from hearing it in person. Emotions may be misinterpreted (and as it has been proven, has happened many times before).

Whatever differences you guys have, ang talo dito ay kaming mga naiipit sa gitna. You think it's fun seeing friends have at each other? You think it's fun having to give up time to one group because you are spending time with the other?

I know that lahat kami sa gitna should respect your individual decisions and go separate ways. All we are asking is that you empathize with the situation all this has put us in.

Salubri said...

i know exactly how you feel. we were almost kicked out of NG last year because of all these conflicts. kung sakin lang rin syempre ayoko rin nang ganon. however i felt like i can no longer adjust to the things that have been happening around me hence i left. my decision to leave should not be seen as anything more than a man's attempt to save what little sanity he has left before he snaps. in hindsight though i realize i should not have made so much noise on the way out. i was fed up with the way things have been going. it was one conflict after another and the short periods of peace kept people so jittery that one has to wonder why. i'm sorry if my decision did affect certain people who had to stay behind and stay in the middle. my apologies to you and romy.

you have known me for a long time though kim. i'm sure you know i've never been the agressor. if i'm squeeling then someone is doing the squeezing. :D. even my battle tactics emulate my personality. it's completely reactionary. lolz.

well there goes my tactical advantage. lolz.

Salubri said...

at any rate wala naman palang gulo. that's cool then. i do hope things get ironed out in the club and everyone gets to move on. just do it without me. lolz. si emcee malamang bumalik pa yan when things go back to normal.

as for me... the club has spinned far from the club i helped form and to a greater degree i've changed these past years. it is no longer the right place for me.

cheers.

like kim said, the ones "in between" are those that are not getting any benefits from these. while all we want is to play, those who don't can not simply shut up, which unfortunately is the main reason for the infighting that's killing US.

nevertheless nothing personal with you guys, im only just talking in defense of the hobby WE active players invested so much on. you have invested a lot on it too but if you can't give us the enjoyment of tasting your cheese and you'll only undermine the barely coping up club with dramatic fanfare, then better fuck off completely from the hobby. i believe you are going to be of much help that way other than being a good source of better-than-soap entertainment.

that's why i'm more proud to those players who just ninja-vanished out of the battlefield without causing much hubbub... Sir Patrick, Manong Guard, Jubay, and others I could barely recall.

don't get me wrong though, I would all want to see em back in action (even beg for em to come back if necessary) but until they're not - you're not - either you better stick with your own problems (you've got "real lives" anyway and we might have not hehe) or we don't give a damn to what BS you'L have to say that will affect OUR hobby negatively.

garrik, i still have faith on your suggestion of a "talk". i just hope this'll be a real talk with all involved parties present, not the cheeky electronic love letter exchanges. it shouLd be better that way. not that I'll give a dime's worth of care, but if it will somehow make me see those cheeses back in the battlefield, why not. i might even throw in some extra shiny pennies.

:)

See... even Kim agrees. :D

Tangena natalo nyo yung love issue na post ah.

Evidently, my posts were misunderstood on this forum and wherever else. More to the point, it was a misunderstanding of definition.

By my saying "Civil War", it was meant to point out similarities from what I see with what I read in the comic and what happened with the club.

In the comic, the said superheroes were put in a position where they come out into the public. Supposedly the US government want them to be trained to use their powers. In the comic, some even joked of having days off and other benefits. Others obviously were against it. Reasons like safety of close friends and relatives, and basically privacy issues. It mattered differently to each individual.

NOW in our club, I saw it as pro-NG and anti-NG. And like a lot of us here, we're torn with where to put ourselves in. We all know many of NG's horror stories. But for a fact, it's not all bad either. Personally, Freddie has not treated me badly. BUT it does pain me to hear that friends of mine were.

THAT, Garrick, is what I was pertaining to. Anything else in between, ewan ko kung san mo/nyo kinuha yun LOL!

It's good in a way that we got this out. Even better to hear that Garr and Ryan are on good grounds again. That, for those who don't know, was my point IN THE FIRST PLACE.

It was when Ronald started texting me about the upcoming WFB GT. Then I went thinking, "Is this going to be a repeat of last year? When VERY few people showed up..." Then I thought again why all that had to happen. And the answer hit me - it was the NG issue IMMEDIATELY followed by the internal issue (Shak boyz vs. their detractors). How will the Grand Tournament be "grand" with all this about? So I started typing... And the rest is now immortalized here LOL!

At least hindi na rin umabot sa suntukan LOL!

As it would be the right thing, I apologize for coming off too vague (mahirap po kasi mag-post in detail kapag maraming trabaho sa office).

Ryan, laro ka na rin sa UPCFA!

Garr... tangena basta maglaro ka LOL!

Salubri said...

excuse my absence from the scene. garrick and i talked and now he knows why i went away. i do apologize to everyone here who didn't like the way i left. but hey... i'm AM a DRAMAQUEEN. lolz. I have the artistic license to be one. belat. :P

i guess not talking to anyone about it has been eating me up too. i can't say i'm pretty much recovered though. some people need a lot more time than others. perhaps when time heals all the wounds i'll visit.

as to the UPCFA thing... i'm not sure pa when i can get to play again but if my plans go well you might see me in UPCFA... as a student. lolz. if not baka sa FEU ang bagsak ko. sana hindi... i still think UP is an art haven. maybe coz my old mentor is there.

i can't find time to play these days. our business is severely understaffed and i've got to pitch in. add to that the pressures of work and love life... whatever free time i get i have to devote to my mistress. lolz. and she's a really horrible one... walang patawad. pati bago matulog gusto pa niya that you do her. ahehe... i was talking about art of course. what a cruel mistress indeed. :D

anyways. growing pains lang nga yan i guess. the club is for all intents and purposes, a baby. good luck guys. ;)

To all of you who have gone your ways, may we see each other again on the gaming tables. Opponents perhaps but never enemies.
